Part 8: Grassroots Policies

This is the eighth part in a series of talks and discussions that are being coordinated by Alicia Hull with Citizen Network.

Alicia was joined by:

• Erika Phoenix who is Catchment Partnership officer for the Don, Dearne and Rother Network
• Paul Powelsland who is a barrister and founder of Lawyers for Nature
• Shisher Shrestha who is a National Researcher for Renewable Energy, Water and Climate Change
• Alban Krashi who is the coordinator for the River Don Project

The panel was chaired by Simon Duffy of Citizen Network.

Paul Powelsland spoke to us about our duty to the natural world and our rivers. Paul describes strategies of citizen advocacy to bring the rights of the river to life.

Shisher Shrestha spoke to us about his research into the challenges of using solar irrigation in order to support farmers in Nepal and tackle extreme water scarcity.

Alban Kraski shared information about the River Dôn project. The River Dôn Project explores how we can bring to life the rights of the River Don as real and living actor in the community.

Erika Phoenix described the partnership work going on between the Don, Dearne and Rother Network to protect and restore the river.
