A Response to Shaping Future Support

This briefing paper reviews the UK Government's Health and Disability Green Paper: Shaping Future Support and argues that more radical reform is necessary.

Author: Mo Stewart, Research Lead, Preventable Harm Project

The UK Government which has been repeatedly criticised by United Nations committees for its failure to respect the human rights of disabled people has now published the Health and Disability Green Paper.

As Mo Stewart argues in this important briefing paper the claims of the government are often false or misleading and rely on their own badly designed research. There is no acknowledgement of the years of bad policy-making, and their severe consequences (including unnecessary deaths, suicides and poverty). It seems highly unlikely, without a real change in thinking, that these new policies will alter the ongoing preventable harm directly caused by the UK Government itself.
