Kelly Hicks is a qualified Social Worker (BA Hons Social Work, Dip Social Work) and is also a Deprivation of Liberty Best Interest Assessor. Kelly is a member of the British Association of Social Workers and is registered with The General Social Care Council.

Since qualifying as a Social Worker Kelly has worked within both children’s and adult services but finished her local authority career as a Manager within Adult Learning Disability Services. Kelly established a local authority service to work with adults with a diagnosis of Autism or Asperger Syndrome.  This service piloted Personal Budgets and achieved the Community Care Award of Excellence as a result of the innovative practice demonstrated.

Kelly made the decision to establish her own company Personalisation Plus Ltd with the belief that working independently would provide the opportunity and freedom to return to true social work values of empowerment and community building.  Kelly works with individuals, groups and organisations to develop more personalised support options and challenge negative discrimination.

Kelly undertakes work as a Community Broker and is currently working with the Personalisation Forum Group to promote more personalised support options for people with mental illness and develop peer support initiatives. The group received the national Putting People First Award (Putting People First) in 2011.

Kelly herself received the Adult Social Worker of the Year Award in 2011.

Kelly’s aim is to support Social Work to return to its professional base and core values through personalisation.

Kelly lives in North Lincolnshire where she can mostly be found in her greenhouse, fishing, breeding chickens and cleaning up after her family and goats!
