We stand at the gates of hope - with an open heart, an open mind and an open will.
Authors: Beth Mount and John O'Brien
The journey towards inclusion and the beloved community has been long and winding. We are not there yet. People with disabilities experience the many obstacles which keep alive exclusion and devaluation. And they are not alone. Many of us feel our worth is not appreciated. Many of us feel that there is no community in which we can flourish.
This paper brings together Beth Mount's imagined and designed quilts with the words of John O'Brien. Together they paint a picture of the place where we stand - at the gates of hope - a place where:
"Generative questions arise when the intelligence of an open heart, an open mind, and an open will reveals tensions between current reality and the ideals of the beloved community."
