The Citizenship Project

Inclusion North's project focused on the voices of people living in the North East of England and North Cumbria.

Authors: The Citizenship Team at Inclusion North

The goal of Inclusion North's Citizenship Project was to make sure that people living in the North East of England and North Cumbria had a voice and were involved, no matter where they lived in the North East and North Cumbria Working Together Strategy. This strategy is a plan that says that people with a learning disability, autistic people, and their families should be equal partners in planning good support and services.

Most of the work was based around the principles of The Seven Keys to Citizenship by Simon Duffy and Wendy Perez.

The Citizenship Team was made up of 4 Citizenship Leaders and a Project Support Coordinator: Nargis and Terry – Family Carers; Frank and Shaun – Self Advocates; Michelle – Project Support Coordinator.

Their aim was to make it easier for people with a learning disability, autistic people and their families to have their voices heard about what support and services are needed in the North East and North Cumbria.

The Citizenship Team created a video about the conference they ran as part of the project:

The project ended in June 2024. You can read and download the final reports, also in Easy Read versions, in your browser, links are below.
