The South West Employment Institute (SWEI) commissioned this evaluation of employment outcomes of Project SEARCH (PS) in the UK.

Project SEARCH started at the Cincinnati Childrenʼs Hospital Medical Center in Ohio USA. The idea was to develop placements for people with intellectual disabilities in the hospital which could be utilised as springboards for lasting employment opportunities.
Internships, as a first step towards employment, were thought to be ideal to identify and train potential employees with intellectual disabilities in a similar way to nurses who receive training in hospital settings. The programme was successfully rolled out in the US and was piloted in the UK in 2010. By July 2013 the UK had 17 active sites. In all cases, these sites are run by a collaboration or partnership between the host employer, an education provider or vocational training organisation, and a supported employment agency.
The South West Employment Institute (SWEI) commissioned this evaluation of employment outcomes of Project SEARCH (PS) UK in May 2013.
