The poor pay a higher rate of tax than the rich. This seems unlikely because public discussions of tax focus only on direct taxes, primarily income tax. However indirect taxes, like VAT, have a huge impact on people on low incomes. Essentially the poor are paying higher taxes, because they are paying different taxes to the rich.
