Beyond Drax: Future for Yorkshire and Humber

Phil Armstrong sits down with Merry Dickinson and Jonathan Essex to talk about the Beyond Drax report and how we can create a green future for Yorkshire and Humber.

Drax was a former coal power station but now burns woodpellets and trees. Drax is the biggest Carbon emitter in the UK.  Merry Dickinson and Jonathan Essex discuss the report, why they wrote it and how we can help our country reach the net zero target. Watch the podcast below. 

In the report Beyond Drax the authors write:

“The Climate Change Act (2008,Target Amendment Order 2019 requires the UK to reach “net zero” emissions by 2050. This means that no more greenhouse gases can be put into the atmosphere than are taken out, either naturally or by engineered technologies. 

“The speed with which emissions are cut is crucial, to limit the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) accumulating in the atmosphere. Britain has a target to cut emissions by 68% by 2030 compared with 1990 levels, but is currently dangerously off track.

“Therefore, it’s important not only to move fast, but to prioritise those actions that can produce the biggest cuts most quickly.”
