Re-Writing the Law, Science and Ethics of Intellectual Disability

This speech was given at the opening plenary presentation International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability World Congress in Halifax July 9th 2012. It is an important statement of the challenges that lie ahead for people with intellectual disabilities.

Michael Bach describes how the current economic problems, continuing eugenic practices and ongoing social prejudices continue to present significant threats to people with intellectual disabilities. However he also argues that the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities marks a critical step forward that we must build upon.
