Innovative training to connect professionals, families and disabled people in the Basque Country.

These two papers describe the development of an important innovative short course—a micocredential—in Personalisation, Participation and Community. The course introduces and connects key ideas involved in challenging and changing the central focus of social services towards an understanding of human rights, citizenship and the practice of inclusion.
The course was developed by Maria Muñoz Ezkergain and a collaboration between the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) and the Matia Foundation.
Microcredentials are short, flexible, focused courses designed to provide specific in-demand skills and knowledge, often completed in 10–12 weeks.
The opportunity to design this course was a great opportunity and a responsibility—to give real meaning to a word that, often repeated, riske becoming empty. The course was designed to create an open and diverse learning space—an accessible and flexible university initiative that brings together professionals, neighbours, families, students and activists to explore how to build a society that cares without leaving anyone behind.
