Institution Watch is a regular publication of the Canada's national self-advocate association and main family organisation advocating for people with intellectual disabilities. This special edition focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of community living as this has evolved as an alternative to institutional provision there.
The commentaries are relevant to all the countries that have, or still are, closing traditional institutions. They argue that there is still a long way to go in ensuring people with intellectual disabilities are in control of their own lives, receive person-centred support and are included as valued citizens in local communities. Centre Fellow David Towell contributes a trans-Atlantic perspective.
