Festival of Debate 2023

Submissions for Sheffield's world-leading CitizenFest are open now.

Action | 18.10.22

Next year's Festival of Debate will take place from 12th April - 26th May.

It's time to submit your event ideas now for consideration in the 2023 programme.

2023's programme will have 3 core topics of inquiry:

  1. How can we respond to the climate crisis and biosphere collapse?
  2. How should our society overcome inequalities of race, gender, income and disability?
  3. How can we reimagine our citizenship and our democracy?

The Festival of Debate team want you to play a part:

Do you have an idea for an event? We want to hear from you!

We are open to keynotes, panel discussions, debates, plays, performances, poetry, music, comedy nights and everything in between. Because a revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

Our decisions will be based on a desire for a wide-reaching programme, with a diverse range of speakers and topic areas that speak to the key social, economic and political issues of the day. Although the programme can and should include elected members, all events should be topic-based as opposed to being party political.

Markus Vähälä, CEO of Citizen Network Osk says:

We hope as many members as possible get involved in Festival of Debate - the first and the biggest of our CitizenFests. This is a great chance to tell people about the exciting work you are doing and to meet people and explore how to turn ideas into action.

We can support digital events and paid events as part of the Festival. Please make a submission and ask for help from Citizen Network and Opus, who lead the Festival of Debate, if you need any help.

The deadline for event submission is 25th November 2022
