A new petition on Change asks the UK Government not to abolish National Insurance contribution based ESA and JSA welfare benefits.
ESA (Employment Support Allowance) is a benefit paid to individuals if they become ill and are unable to work for a few weeks or months. JSA (Job Seekers' Allowance) is paid to unemployed job seekers.
Leaked documents seem to suggest that the Government intends to cut the contributory element of ESA which would hit ill or disabled claimants who have paid into the system through national insurance contributions.
Alison Bush met with her MP Geoffrey Robinson last week, concerned about these possible cuts and he suggested she start a petition that he could then present to Parliament.
