The Just Fair Consortium will launch a report entitled "Dignity and Opportunity for All: Securing the Rights of Disabled People in the Austerity Era" on 26th November from 4pm to 6pm in the Houses of Parliament (Committee Room 8).

The UN Special Rapporteur on Disability will launch the report, while Baroness Jane Campbell (Joint Committee of Human Rights) will Chair proceedings, and Kate Green MP (Shadow Minister for Disabled People) and Mike Penning MP (Disability Minister TBC) will respond to the reports findings.

Sick and disabled people are leading on all elements of the research, including submission of real-life case-studies and presentation of testimony evidence at the November report launch.

The report will examine the realisation of the human rights contained in the UN Convention on the Rights of Person's with Disabilities, particularly the rights to an independent living, adequate standard of living and social protection, and work and employment.

The report will focus on the impact of welfare reform, including the bedroom tax, PIP/DLA, spare room subsidy (bedroom tax), ESA, Universal Credit, work programe, closure of the Independent Living Fund, benefit cap, as well as cuts to social care.

The event will enable disabled people's organisations, MPs, Peers, the media and sick and disabled people to discuss the challenges and opportunities for better securing the human rights of diabled people in the UK.
