We have been working with our allies to encourage a Parliamentary review of social care; so we're very pleased that the Communities and Local Government (CLG) Committee has now launched an Inquiry into adult social care. You can find more details here:
Inquiry Details
It is our view that the current system is in a deep crisis that is:
- Economic - adult social care has been cut by more than 30% since 2010
- Political - individuals, families and the system as a whole lacks effective protection
- Philosophical - we treat 'care' as a commodity to be purchased at the lowest price
In our view we need a universal approach that respects everybody's right to independent living and encourages the development of thriving and inclusive communities. We need to make fundamental changes to the organisation, funding and purpose of the current system, bringing to an end years of means-testing, segregation and undue regulation.
