Sandra Fietkau

Academic and Researcher

I was trained as a social worker and started working with people with lived experience of disability about 20 years ago. In 2007, I started my first project promoting inclusion and have been supporting the idea of "people having access and living together as contributing citizens" ever since.

In 2018 I became a professor, first in social work, then in "heilpaedagogic", a specific practical field working with people experiencing exclusion or living with a high risk of being excluded. I work with students, provide practical training and also support teams and professionals as counsellor and coach.

In the past few years I have also been able to take on research, especially in the fields of practical support, social space and innovative service provision. In 2026 I will be moving to Hannover University of Applied Sciences, and I am looking forward to starting this new position in a different part of Germany.
