I have been dabbling in the field of Intellectual / Developmental Disabilities for about 4 decades. I began within 2 weeks of graduating from California State University, Chico. I landed in this field by accident. Best mistake I have ever made. It felt like a perfect fit from the beginning.
Since the very beginning, I have taken what I learned seriously. Initially I learned from my direct employer that consequences are the answer. I learned a prescribed consequence for every poor response from every resident that lived in the group home. It never sat well with me.
I began following people like Anne Donnellan and Herb Lovett and that knowledge changed my whole world. Now I am providing customized and individualized support services for people who live in their own homes. I have an awesome team of motivated people around me. I opened Life Works in January of 2004. Best decision I have ever made.
