Jessica Valins

Student at the University of Sheffield

Jessica is a student in her second year at the University of Sheffield and is studying History and Politics.

Jessica has a keen interest in politics and aspires to make a positive impact on the local community. She is hoping to gain employment in either the political research field, the civil service or working for an NGO after graduating university.

At university, she is involved in a social enterprise project called Enactus which originally worked to help farmers facing poverty in Malawi. Now the project seeks to better the lives of homeless people in Sheffield.

As homelessness is a topic she feels strongly about, the research she did for Citizen Network focuses on how homelessness in Sheffield has changed over the past 17 years.

She will start her job as Faculty Champion for the Department of History next term, where she will be involved in events which aim to inspire young people from minority backgrounds to go to university.
