Alison Whitten is the Director of the Systems Lab at Regen Melbourne, a not-for-profit organisation in service of the regeneration of Greater Melbourne.
She leads the team’s action research and collaborative experiments designed to shift underlying systems conditions in the city and enable urban transformation. Alison is also the Chair of the Board of the Castlemaine Institute, a not-for-profit research entity in regional Victoria focused on thriving local economies, communities and landscapes.
Alison has a background in urban resilience, international development and strategy consulting, with previous professional experience in local government and the private sector across Australia, the US, Sub-Saharan Africa and China. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Systems Engineering and a Master of Urban Planning. Alison cares deeply about community-led change and using her training as a planner to understand the role of spatial planning and design in facilitating social connection. She has particular sector interests in housing and food systems.
When not working, you can find Alison in the garden or getting out and about on her cargo bike, with her son on the back.
